Access to information law sails through National Assembly

Africa-Press – Namibia. The National Assembly passed the access to information bill on Tuesday.

The bill, which was tabled in the National Assembly in 2020, will now be reviewed by the National Council and become law after being signed by the president.

The access to information bill aims to promote the public’s free access to information held by public entities, and to compel public and private entities to proactively and promptly make information available.

Information and communication technology minister Peya Mushelenga says the bill has passed through various forms and stages of consultations.

“I’m glad that the National Assembly has finally passed the bill, demonstrating our commitment to the fundamentals of democracy,” he commented.
