Africa-Press – Namibia. AGRIBANK last week hosted training sessions in agricultural activities for women and young people in the //Kharas region.
According to a media release issued by the bank’s public relations officer, Fillemon Nangonya, yesterday, the training covers topics such as farm management planning, rangeland management, small-stock management, crop production, and piggery and poultry production.
“The Agricultural Bank of Namibia, as a development finance institution, does not only lend money for the promotion of agriculture and related activities, but the bank is also responsible for the provision of agri-advisory services to farmers,” said Nanginya in the statement.
The aim of the training sessions is to equip farming communities with skills that enhance productivity and at the same time take into consideration climate resilience through diversified farming practices, the statement said.
The training sessions were conducted at Keetmanshop, Aroab, Koës and Berseba between 1 and 9 February, and each session was attended by more than 30 participants, comprising women and youth.
“All farmers, whether they are the bank’s clients or not, can benefit from the training services aimed at delivering technical farming skills.
“These are theory-based learning and practical demonstrations that strengthen farmers’ skills set, knowledge, and attitude towards farming,” said the statement.
More training sessions will take place in the Erongo region from 15 to 17 February at Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.
Interested farmers who want to be trained are advised to organise themselves into a group of 15 people or more and to contact the bank for arrangements and topics to be covered.
