Africa-Press – Namibia. Algeria has committed to constructing a fully funded medical polyclinic in Namibia, delivering a major boost to the country’s health sector while reinforcing long-standing ties between the two nations.

The pledge was confirmed during a meeting at State House between President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Algeria’s ambassador, Abdelkrim Diaf, on Friday.

The engagement was attended by health minister, Esperance Luvindao, where the ambassador presented a framed plan of the proposed facility.

Diaf said the project reflects the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and aims to support Namibia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare system.

“I was honoured by meeting with Her Excellency today to confirm outstanding relations between our two countries. This project is a small but humble contribution from my country to support the huge efforts made by the Namibian government in the health sector,” he said.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah welcomed the development, saying it reflects the growing strength of bilateral cooperation between Namibia and Algeria.

She noted that the project builds on discussions held as far back as 2008 during the Joint Commission between the two nations.

“We have seen that our long-standing cooperation continues to bear fruit. The health sector was one area we discussed in detail, and now we are seeing the outcome,” she said.

The president also highlighted Algeria’s continued support in education, revealing that more than 100 Namibians have benefited from study opportunities in the north African country.

“We really appreciate your support in education. That is how we can record over 100 Namibians who did their studies in Algeria,” she said.

She added that such initiatives are key to building local capacity and strengthening national development.

The planned polyclinic is expected to improve access to healthcare services, particularly for communities in need, while complementing government efforts to expand and modernise the health system.
