Africa-Press – Namibia. FORMER information and communication technology (ICT) company, PowerCom head Alisa Amupolo assumed office on Monday as the new chief executive officer of state-owned diamond-dealing company Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia).

She replaces Namdia founding chief executive officer Kennedy Hamutenya, whose contract expired this year.

Amupolo, a board member at The Namibian, started her career in the media and is a seasoned ICT professional who has no diamond-related experience.

Namdia is a billion-dollar company, which was formed to resell Namibian diamonds to the world outside the De Beers deal. The company has made over N$5 billion in diamond sales since its inception.
