Africa-Press – Namibia. ANGOLA is from 1 December a no-go area for travellers from seven African countries: Botswana, eSwatini, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The measure that affects land, sea and air entry points is meant to curtail the propagation of Omicron, a new variant of the coronavirus. The measure was announced Saturday by Adao de Almeida, a minister in the office of the president.
The Angolan media quoted Almeida as saying that entry of travellers from those seven countries is temporarily suspended. The measure does not affect returning Angolan citizens, who will be quarantined for 14 days.
The new variant was so far detected in two of Namibia’s neighbours namely Botswana and South Africa. The land border between Namibia and Angola has been closed since March last year. Only providers of essential goods and services are allowed to cross at designated exit and entry points.
