Africa-Press – Namibia. HEALTH ministry officials and law enforcement agents have taken note of statements emanating from anti mandatory vaccine campaigners who are threatening to attack and harm members of Covid-19 vaccination teams in the northern regions.
A group of people who identify themselves as anti mandatory vaccine campaigners have revealed their plan to attack Covid-19 vaccination teams that visit schools in the rural areas to vaccinate the learners.
Their plan is apparently to find such a team at a fairly isolated school, attack and harm team members, destroy the vaccines and burn down the vehicle “as a warning” to government.
“We need to carry out just one violent incident for them (government) to know that we mean business. We are prepared to die as martyrs and to go to prison for defending Namibian children,” said an Ohangwena-based campaigner in an audio clip.
He was immediately supported by others who said the group would be on the lookout for any vaccination teams that are fairly vulnerable for a surprise attack.
Informanté contacted a number of police spokespersons who said that they are aware of the threatening statements and that the internal security apparatus “might already have taken up the matter”. They did not go into detail.
Health officials said that they, too, are aware of the anti-vaccine campaigners who are threatening to resort to violent means to disrupt the Covid vaccination campaign and the ministry is taking the necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its officials.
“The security cluster was notified about the matter,” said a health official in the Omusati Region. Photo for illustrative purposes: Pixabay
