Africa-Press – Namibia. PROMOTING good governance remains one of Namibia’s priorities, hence the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National secretariat is currently in the Oshana Region as part of its national tour to elevate the country’s self-assessment report.

The APRM is a body meant to assess government transparency, accountability and participatory governance. The secretariat, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Lineekela Mboti, will be visiting all 14 regions.

In 2017, Namibia became the 36th African Union (AU) member state to voluntarily accede to the APRM. Mboti stated that the aim of the visit is to talk to ordinary people in the country on how to improve effective governance.

“The national plan of action will be developed and will be shared with development partners,” he said. The National Plan, which will be fine funded by government, will then be called the National Development Plan (NDP) 6 that will replace the NDP 5.

Namibia has so far completed its country self-assessment report that is ready to be submitted to cabinet for approval. The secretariat is, however, expected to complete the validation assessment of service delivery before it gets a go ahead. The secretariat concluded its visit in the Oshana Region and will be heading to the Omusati and Kunene regions on Thursday.
