Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Bank of Namibia scooped the best commemorative banknote award for the N$30 note at the high-security printing virtual awards in the regional category Europe, Middle East and Africa on 16 December 2021.

Winning the award was a significant achievement for the Bank of Namibia as this is the first commemorative banknote designed and issued by the bank.

Bank of Namibia director of banking services Sencia Kaizemi-Rukata said the award demonstrates the quality of the N$30 banknote and is a validation that the banknote has the latest high security features in the international currency industry.

“Reconnaissance High-Security Printing internationally recognises outstanding achievement in the design, technical sophistication and security of a banknote or banknote series, which is the key judging criteria,” she said in a statement issued on Monday.

“They further look at visual artistry and high levels of technical and security sophistication, with considerable emphasis on reflecting the cultural heritage of the issuing country in the note, and the relevance of the overall design and symbolism to the issuing country.”

The N$30 banknote was issued to celebrate Namibia’s 30th independence anniversary and symbolises the smooth transition of power between three presidents, peace and stability.

Proceeds from the sale of the commemorative notes that amounted to N$480 000 were donated to the Save the Rhino Trust Namibia, as part of the bank’s efforts to save the black rhino from extinction. – [email protected]
