Africa-Press – Namibia. Athletics coach Henk Botha has cleared up his differences with the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) and resolved to work together in a constructive manner.
Botha had earlier criticised the NNOC of unprofessionalism and poor service at the kit handover ceremony for the Namibian team to compete at next month’s Africa Youth Games Region in Angola. However following talks with the NNOC he said their differences have been resolved and that they will work together for the benefit of Namibian athletes.
Here is Botha’s statement:
“Following a constructive and positive discussion with the leadership of the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), I wish to provide clarity on several matters raised in my earlier statement.
Firstly, I would like to correct an important factual detail regarding the manufacturing of the team clothing. The apparel was not produced by a company in the United States, as previously understood, but rather by a United Kingdom–based manufacturer with a sales office in Kenya. I apologise for this error and appreciate the NNOC’s willingness to clarify the information openly and transparently.
Our recent discussion was held in a cooperative and solution-driven manner. The concerns raised—particularly around planning, communication, and athlete experience—were addressed, and we have agreed on steps to ensure improved processes going forward. I am encouraged by the commitment shown by the NNOC to place athletes at the centre of all operations.
As a patriotic Namibian, my only intention has ever been to protect the interests of our athletes and to ensure that Namibia’s sporting systems reflect excellence, accountability, and unity. At no point did I intend to harm the reputation of the NNOC or Namibian sport. My concerns came from a place of responsibility and passion for our athletes and their success.
I look forward to continuing our work together—constructively and with renewed focus—to strengthen Namibia’s position as a rising force in international sport. By uniting our efforts, we can provide our athletes with the support, dignity, and opportunities they deserve.”
