Boxing year in review: Prospects take centre stage

Africa-Press – Namibia. THERE may not be a world boxing champion in Namibia this year. But that does not mean there was nothing to write home about.

Seasoned judge and referee Lazarus ‘Laizy’ Nainda and MTC Sunshine Academy promoter Nestor Tobias summarised some of the country’s notable boxing moments for 2021.

LAZARUS NAINDA 1. The featherweight national title fight between Martin ‘Alegator’ Mukungu and Immanuel ‘Bullet’ Jason at Walvis Bay on 4 December. 2. The first fight between Lazarus Namalambo and Andreas Mwenyo on 22 October.

3. Nathanael Kakololo versus Johannes Niinkoti on 22 October.

4. The middleweight national title rematch between Paulinus Ndjolonimus and Anthony Jarmann on 16 October at Country Club.

5. The fight between Immanuel Joseph and Fillemon Nghutenanye from Swakopmund on 30 April.

NESTOR TOBIAS 1. Jeremia Nakathila versus Shakur Stevenson (WBO interim world title). 2. John John Paulinus versus Anthony Jarman (WBO Africa title). 3. Phillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa versus Innocent Matengu (WBO global title).

4. Charles Shinima versus Mohammad Mutalema (WBO Africa title).

5. Matheus Heita versus Timashe Mwadziwana (WBA Pan African title).
