Africa-Press – Namibia. RICKARDO Broxham of the Honeycomb Pro Cycling team maintained a narrow lead in the Tour de Windhoek when he won the first stage on the Dordabis road on Friday morning.

Broxham won a sprint to the line to complete the 109km road race in 2 hours 29 minutes 16 seconds, while four other cyclists finished one second behind.

They are Tristan Cuthbert of the TEG Procycling team, Marc Pritzen of Honeycomb, Daniel Abraham of Team Mannie’s Bike Mecca and Brandon Downes of Teg Procycling.

Broxham now holds the overall lead with a time of 2:38:26, followed by Cuthbert (2:38:27), Pritzen (2:38:28), Abraham (2:38:29) and Downes (2:38:30).

Honeycomb Pro Cycling has taken the lead in the team competition with an overall time of 7:65:51, followed by TEG Procycling (7:56:55) and Simonis Storm powered by Hollard (7:59:51).

Vera Looser of the MBM Ladies team won the women’s race over 80km after beating Melissa Hinz of the Food Lover’s Market team in a sprint to the line.

They both finished in 2:18:33, while Anri Krugel of Food Lover’s Market and Courtney Liebenberg of MBM Ladies followed a second behind.

Looser now holds the overall lead with a time of 2:30:14, with Hinz and Krugel both four seconds behind, while Liebenberg is fourth (2:30:25) and Michelle Doman of Food Lover’s Market fifth (2:30:54).

Food Lover’s Market now leads the women’s team competition in an overall time of 7:31:29, followed by MBM Ladies (7:36:58) and Cymot Racing (7:44:43).
