Africa-Press – Namibia. LONG distance bus operators who for many years resisted the Oshakati town council’s designation of the Dr. Frans Aupa Indongo Open Market, know as Omatala, as the only bus terminal in town, have finally agreed to cooperate.
Many bus operators have ignored the council’s decision and have continued to use the old Okatana Service Station in the Dr. Agostinho Neto Street. They were removed several times, some were even fined, but they kept going back to the same spot.
According to council spokesperson, Katarina Kamari, the source of the problem was identified and a solution was found. She said that a number of bus operators had an apparently irreconcilable disagreement with the management of the bus terminal at Omatala.
Recently, the town council organised a meeting with long distance bus operators and other stakeholders and a new bus terminal management, that is acceptable to all, was elected.
“All those (bus operators) currently operating from the Okatana Service Station have until 1 October to move to the terminal at the Open Market. That is the agreement,” said Kamari.
