Africa-Press – Namibia. The Capricorn Eagles stormed into the semifinals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier after thrashing Sierra Leone by 152 runs yesterday.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Namibia’s openers, Sune Wittmann and Kayleen Green laid into the Sierra Leonean bowlers from the start, with Wittmann hitting a six and a four off the first two balls by Ann Marie Kamara, while she hit another six and two fours off the second over by Aminata Kamara.
Wittmann raced to her 50 off only 22 balls, while their century partnership came up off only 46 balls.
Wittmann was eventually out, bowled by Celina Bull for 78 off 35 balls (11×4, 3×6), but Yasmeen Khan joined Green to continue the batting onslaught.
Green reached her 50 off 32 balls in the 12th over, while Khan’s 50 came off only 25 balls in the 18th over. In the same over Khan also brought up 200 on the scoreboard with a big six off Isha Bangura, while they eventually reached a massive 228/1 off their 20 overs.
Green remained not out on 86 off 57 balls (13×4), while Khan remained not out on 56 off 28 balls (7×4, 1×6).
Sierra Leone never came close to the target, as they were bundled out for only 76 runs.
They lost two wickets in the second over and from then on the wickets fell at regular intervals, while only Fatu Conteh with 12 runs and Emma Kamara with 24 managed to reach double figures.
Saima Tuhadeleni was Namibia’s top bowler, taking three wickets for 12 runs, while Wilka Mwatile took 2/13 and Green 2/8, to win the player of the match award.
In another match yesterday morning, Tanzania beat Rwanda by 18 runs to finish on top of Group B on six points, after winning all three their matches.
In yesterday afternoon’s matches, Zimbabwe beat Nigeria by 10 wickets to finish on top of Group A on six points, while Uganda beat Kenya by eight wickets.
In today’s semifinals, Namibia will face Tanzania, while Zimbabwe will face Uganda.
