Challenges threaten to reverse progress – Luvindao at Geneva Commonwealth meeting

Africa-Press – Namibia. Minister of health and social services Esperance Luvindao is leading a Namibian delegation at the Commonwealth Health Ministers’ Meeting in Geneva.

The meeting, which was underway over the weekend, is being held under the theme ‘Investing in Health: Sustainable Financing for an Equitable Commonwealth’.

The ministry in a statement says Luvindao at the meeting highlighted that the rising burden of non-communicable diseases, mental health issues, and the health impacts of climate change, coupled with declining donor financing, threaten to reverse years of progress in pursuit of universal health coverage.

“She underscored that it is imperative that Commonwealth member states recognise that sustainable health financing is not a mere expense, but a vital investment in our collective socio-economic future,” says statement reads.
