Chaos in Parliament as AR MPs removed

Africa-Press – Namibia. The National Assembly erupted in chaos after the forced removal of Affirmative Repositioning member Tuhafeni Kalola and others from the chamber. This came after Speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila ordered them to leave following a ruckus. After the National Assembly reconvened following tea, chaos erupted again, and the speaker said that, according to the rules, she was obliged to adjourn the session for the rest of the day. The confrontation started when the leader of the AR party, Job Amupanda, was told by the speaker that he could not address the House in jeans.

After reconvening and amidst the chaos, Amupanda was warned that he could not speak on a cellphone in the House. A new wave of shouting broke out from the opposition benches, while SWAPO members sat in silence before the speaker adjourned. She indicated that she will consult with the whips of parties on the way forward to re-establish order and dignity in the National Assembly.
