Africa-Press – Namibia. CHEVENING Scholarships are currently open for 2023/2024 applicants.

The United Kingdom’s (UK) international scholarships programme is funded by the foreign, commonwealth and development office and partner organisations, and offers fully funded one-year master’s degree courses in the UK.

Senior international programme officer at the Chevening secretariat Nora Mufics said successful Chevening candidates come from a diverse range of countries and backgrounds, but they all demonstrate the passion, vision and skills needed to shape a better world.

“There are many benefits to being selected, including fully funded tuition fees, access to some of the best quality education in the world, exclusive networking opportunities, and the chance to explore the UK’s diverse culture,” she said.

Mufics said at the end of the scholarship, the scholars will join a diverse community of over 50 000 global alumni.

“You’ll return home equipped with the knowledge and networks to bring your ideas to life and thrive in your career.

It doesn’t matter where you come from. It’s where you’re going that counts,” she said.

The application process is done online, and applicants will need to submit their education documents with references, as well as one unconditional UK university offer, said Mufics.

“The deadlines for these required documents are in the Chevening application timeline on our website.

“If you are conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, it is essential that you submit the required documents in order to remain in the process,” she said.

The scholarship is offered on a full time basis only and the application process is free, she said.

Scholarship beneficiary Menessia Diergaardt said it was the opportunity of a lifetime, which was meaningful. She graduated with a master’s degree in management and corporate governance with business ethics from Birkbeck University of London through the Chevening scholarship in 2021.

“After my second attempt of applying I finally got the scholarship in 2020, and made a deliberate decision to leave my two young boys to go study in the UK and acquire the best education and I did not hesitate,” she said.

Diegaardt said the knowledge she gained presented her with practical understanding of good governance principles and business ethics.

“I am applying the experience in my current job to address tax loopholes and revenue leakages through transfer pricing audits.

So, for me, it was a golden opportunity,” she said.

“I always aspired to pursue a career in corporate governance because it is a crucial driver to sustainable economic development.

And similarly, I have a passion for good governance, and corporate governance is one of the cornerstones of good business,” she said.
