Christmas season of escapes

Africa-Press – Namibia. MOST people escape from the past year’s stress and hard work over Christmas, while criminals at the same time break away from cells and police stations.

A suspected rapist and assailant are among the six men who escaped from custody on 24 and 25 December.

In Outjo, four male inmates in police holding cell number 5 on 24 December cut the iron bars of the ceiling and roof with an unknown object and disappeared.

Of the four escapees, two are suspected stock thieves and two poachers. Their ages are 24, 28, 32 and 40.

The Outjo police do not know at what time exactly the suspects got out but are investigating the matter.

On Christmas Day around 20:00, a 23-year-old man charged with rape escaped from custody during cell visiting hours at the Aranos police station.

The police are still searching for the man.

The reports came after Informanté earlier reported on the panga-wielding girlfriend attacker who also on 25 December around 20:00 escaped from custody and ran from the Usakos police charge office just before lock-up.

He allegedly attempted to cut his 33-year-old girlfriend with a panga and threatened to kill her at their residence.

The victim has been taken to an unknown location while the search for the suspect continues.
