Africa-Press – Namibia. ONE of the many bushfires that were reported on Thursday has destroyed a farmhouse in the area of Uhlenthorst while the owner was helping others fight a blaze that was destroying thousands of hectares of grazing.
With the help of their workers, Wimpie Schoeman and his wife attempted to save as much of their personal belongings as possible, but the fire spread quickly and eventually destroyed their entire house.
It is suspected that embers from surrounding fires caused the house to catch fire and that gas lines that were subsequently ruptured caused the house to burn down completely.
The farming community has launched a fund to assist Schoeman to rebuild his home because he cancelled his insurance as a result of the devastating drought of the past eight years.
