Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music (Nascam) has postponed its annual general meeting (AGM) which was set to take place last Saturday.
Knowledge Ipinge, an entrepreneur and Nascam board member, says the AGM was postponed after only 10 out of the society’s estimated 7 000 members registered for the meeting.
“We had fewer than 10 members confirming their attendance, and a lot of requests to consider hosting it after the festive season, as the majority has left Windhoek in anticipation of a lockdown due to the rumours around the regulations the president announced last week,” Ipinge says.
The AGM would this year have focused on electing new Nascam board members, and has been postponed to 19 January. “Hence the board has resolved to postpone it to a date that allows us to meet our constitutional obligations when the secretariat resumes its duties in January 2022,” Ipinge said.
Although many artists have been board members of the society, it is alleged that not much has changed over the past 10 years. The struggling organisation has been at the helm of controversy regarding royalty payments, and although artists are constantly complaining, they seem unwilling to engage in Nascam meetings and events.
