Africa-Press – Namibia. CRIMINALS used chemicals to drug residents in Ongwediva and steal diverse items valued at over N$14 000 from their house in the New Reception area when the house dwellers were fast asleep.
“We were four in the house at the time. We went to bed late, but that was not the reason we fell into a deep sleep all at once. We suspect that the criminals used a mysterious smoke to induce deep sleep before they entered the house,” said one of the house-dwellers, who preferred anonymity.
The incident occurred between 02:00 and 03:00 on Saturday. It is suspected that the criminals used an unknown type of gas. The thieves targeted mostly electronic appliances such as a TV set and mobile phones.
A case of housebreaking was registered at the Ongwediva police station. A senior police officer confirmed that criminals do indeed use substances that induce deep sleep, but no detailed information is available yet.
