THE Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPBN) has announced an increase in the selling price of livestock ear tags, effective 1 November 2025.
According to the FAN Meat Ear Tag Division, the price adjustment is driven by higher supply costs. The new prices are as follows:
In addition, producers will now have the option of purchasing ALLFLEX ear tags, which will be available alongside the standard supplier stock. Prices for the ALLFLEX tags are set at N$33.50 for the standard size and N$37.50 for the large size.
The LLPBN emphasised that the identification of livestock is compulsory under the Animal Identification Regulations of the Animal Health Act (Act 1 of 2011). Only approved identification devices may be used, and these are evaluated based on quality and efficiency.
In Namibia, cattle must be identified through a combination of an electronic button ear tag and a visual flag-type ear tag, while small stock are identified with ear tags bearing the owner’s stock brand. Pigs, on the other hand, are identified through ear tattoos carrying the owner’s stock brand.
