Africa-Press – Namibia. The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in the Zambezi region has announced full readiness for the Supplementary Registration of Voters (SRV), which officially started yesterday ahead of the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections scheduled for 26 November.
In an interview with New Era yesterday, Zambezi Regional Electoral Officer Lesley Simwanza assured the public that all logistical preparations were completed well in advance.
In addition, the ECN team in the region is fully prepared to conduct a smooth and credible registration process.
“We are confident in our ability to serve all eligible voters efficiently throughout Zambezi. Our registration teams have been thoroughly trained and are equipped with all necessary materials and support,” Simwanza said. The region has deployed 29 registration teams across its eight constituencies, with 221 registration points – a mix of fixed and mobile stations – strategically placed to ensure accessibility, especially for voters in remote and rural areas.
Simwanza said the deployment process has gone smoothly so far.
“So far, we have not encountered any problems. The teams are on the ground and ready to assist voters,” he noted.
With the SRV period running from 4 August to August 19, he urged all eligible citizens, particularly first-time voters, to.
“I strongly encourage all eligible voters, especially our young people who have turned 18 after the 2024 general registration, to take this opportunity to register. Your vote is your voice. No registration means no participation in the upcoming elections,” he cautioned.
Simwanza called on community members to help the elderly and those with mobility challenges access registration points.
“We urge the public to cooperate with our teams and bring the necessary documents, such as a valid Namibian ID. The ECN is committed to making sure no eligible voter is left behind,” he said.
Nationwide, the ECN has set up 4 233 registration points, including schools, community centres and other accessible venues across all constituencies and local authorities.
Voter registration will occur from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM throughout the registration period.
The ECN has deployed voter registration teams nationwide in preparation for the 2025 elections, with the supplementary registration aimed at registering eligible voters who missed out during the 2024 general registration exercise.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support of the media in sharing this important electoral information. The success of our democracy depends on an informed and active citizenry,” Simwanza said.
