Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has appointed financial investigator Gerrit Eiman as its acting director from 1 January.
Eiman, who has been at the centre for around 13 years, is the FIC’s current deputy director responsible for financial investigations and analysis, as well as law enforcement and prosecutorial support.
He will act in the director’s position until a substantive director is appointed, says the centre’s council chairperson, Johannes !Gawaxab. Eiman is a qualified and competent law-enforcement expert with 30 years’ experience in various law-enforcement disciplines, and an admitted legal practitioner of the High Court.
He holds B Juris and LLB degrees from the University of Namibia. His appointment as the acting head of the centre follows Leonie Dunn’s recent appointment as the second deputy governor of the central bank, which comes into effect on 1 January.
“Given the strategic national importance of the FIC director position in safeguarding financial integrity, it is important that this position always be occupied. The council is confident that with the support of the management of the FIC and staff, he will acquit himself well in this role,” !Gawaxab says.
