Africa-Press – Namibia. Swapo member of parliament Jerry Ekandjo is threatening to sue the party if he is not included on the list of Swapo vice presidential candidates by the end of the day on Monday.

Swapo member of parliament Jerry Ekandjo is threatening to sue the party if he is not included on the list of Swapo vice presidential candidates by the end of the day on Monday.

Ekandjo’s lawyers, Metcalfe Beukes Attorneys, said this in a letter addressed to Swapo lawyers Murorua Kurtz Kasper Inc on Friday.

In the meantime, Ekandjo’s lawyers said the former Cabinet member would not start to campaign as he had said earlier this week.

“As a disciplined member of Swapo” Ekandjo will wait until he has been authorised by the party’s central committee, the lawyers said.

The lawyers also said in their letter that if no positive reply is received from the party by close of business on Monday, an urgent application will be launched in the High Court.

Ekandjo threatened to sue Swapo this week over his exclusion from the vice presidential race.

Ekandjo, who unsuccessfully stood as a Swapo vice presidential candidate in elections in 2012 and 2017, failed to make it to the list of current vice presidential candidates at a meeting of the party’s central committee last weekend.
