Swapo veteran Jerry Ekandjo’s aspiration of joining the list of candidates for the party’s vice president position will not materialise, as the central committee decided that he is not allowed.
He hoped to join Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and Pohamba Shifeta as Swapo vice presidential candidates.
The central committee meeting on Friday morning was convened because of Ekandjo’s threat to take the legal route to challenge his exclusion.
Last month, Ekandjo threatened to take the legal route to challenge his exclusion from the nominees list of Swapo leaders contesting for the party’s vice presidency at the upcoming elective congress.
The backbencher failed to become one of the four central committee-approved candidates vying for the Swapo vice presidency.
Ekandjo unsuccessfully stood as a Swapo vice presidential candidate in elections in 2012 and 2017.
