Endjala proposes fourth border post for Omusati

Africa-Press – Namibia. Omusati regional governor Erginus Endjala said the region is experiencing a high number of illegal border crossings, which negatively affects border control and management.

Endjala said this on Wednesday during his state of the region address at Outapi.

The governor said the border policing area of the Omusati region covers approximately 162 km alongside the international borders between Namibia and Angola.

“There are three gazetted border entry posts at Ruacana, Omahenene and Wakasamane. Most culprits who cross the borders illegally smuggle illicit goods such as fuel, alcohol, pharmaceutical products and cigarettes,” Endjala said.

He said to ease traffic at the border posts and address illegal border crossings, the region needs an additional border post.

“Hence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security should upgrade the Okapalelona police border control point to a fully-fledged border post,” Endjala said.
