ErongoRED director wants CEO appointment nullified

Africa-Press – Namibia. A director of the Erongo region’s regional electricity distribution company, Irene Simeon-Kurtz, wants the appointment of the company’s chief executive officer, Immanuel !Hanabeb, to be nullified.

!Hanabeb’s appointment was announced on 17 May, and he is due to take up his new role as chief executive of ErongoRED on 1 June.

He replaces Fessor Mbango, whose contract ended on 30 April.

In a letter to chairperson of ErongoRED’s board of directors, Zoe Nambahu, dated 27 May and seen by The Namibian, Simeon-Kurtz alleged that !Hanabeb’s appointment was done unlawfully.

“I have reason to believe that the recruitment process for a new CEO was tampered with and that the decision to appoint Mr !Hanabeb was not taken in accordance with the requisite provisions of the company recruitment and selection policy and/or rules,” Simeon-Kurtz wrote.

According to her, the decision should be rescinded as it violates administrative justice.

Simeon-Kurtz further alleged that !Hanabeb was not on an initial list of candidates shortlisted for the position.

“I have also noted with great concern that the recruitment consultant (Elite Consulting) and senior human resource manager indicated that Mr !Hanabeb ought to give three months’ notice with his current employer. I do however understand that Mr !Hanabeb only gave one month’s notice while the labour dispute is still ongoing,” she added.
