Africa-Press – Namibia. A passionate small-scale farmer from the Etunda Irrigation Produce in the Omusati region has shown generosity by donating 100 cabbages to Oshifo Police inmates and 50 cabbages to Wisdom Private School at Okapika village.
Maria Ashipala owns a thriving vegetable plot at Etunda. Speaking to New Era, she said her contribution comes from a deep love for her community and country.
She expressed appreciation to the government for allocating land to small-scale farmers like herself, saying it has empowered many families to sustain themselves. Despite the success of her farm, Ashipala admitted that finding a consistent market remains her biggest challenge.
“Most of the time, I sell my produce directly to community members and nearby institutions. If I can get access to a stable market, I believe I can grow even more and employ others,” she said.
Omusati regional commissioner Ismael Basson commended Ashipala for her generosity and civic mindedness. Basson added that such gestures demonstrate the spirit of unity and compassion within communities.
“I hope her humble gesture encourages others to share what they have for the greater good,” he said.
Leena Reinhold, the principal of Wisdom Private School, expressed deep gratitude for Ashipala’s donation, noting that it is a special donation to them, as it will make a difference within their school. She praised Ashipala as an inspiration to other local farmers.
