Africa-PressNamibia. THE remains of the late Marco Hausiku, who symbolically passed away on Heroes’ Day on 26 August 2021, were this morning laid to rest at the Heroes Acre on the outskirts of Windhoek.

His funeral, which embodied the heroes status that was accorded to him by President Hage Geingob, was attended by his Swapo comrades, as well as different political parties, family and friends alike.

President Geingob spoke at his funeral, as well as other political leaders such as McHenry Venaani, President of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), and Swapo Party Secretary-General, Sophia Shaningwa.

Geingob in his speech said that the nation is paying its final respect to a hero, a freedom fighter, a teacher and a dependable member of Cabinet and the top structures of the leading Swapo Party.

“We shall forever remain grateful for his solid contributions to a better Namibia,” said an emotional Geingob.

The Sam Nujoma Foundation, under the Founding Father Sam Nujoma, delivered a speech by Christine //Hoebes, Minister in the Presidency, in which it noted that the late Hausiku will be remembered for his kindness, his boundless optimism, his humility and humanity.

Hausiku was a highly dependable freedom fighter and disciplined servant of the Namibian people and the Swapo Party, said the foundation of Namibia’s first president post independence.

The foundation added that late Hausiku contributed to the liberation struggle and the development of an independent Namibia. Hausiku at the time of his death, at the age of 67, served as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Swapo Party.

He also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2010 and Deputy Prime Minister from 2010 to 2014, as well as the Rector of the Swapo Party School since 2016. The late Hausiku leaves behind his wife, Toini Mwahangange Hausiku, his mother, Meekulu Natalia Nangura Kahare, six children and three siblings.
