Sixteen students from the Walvis Bay Urban Constituency have received financial assistance through the Erongo Regional Council’s Student Support Programme, aimed at easing the financial burden on vulnerable learners.
The constituency received N$50 000 from the council for the initiative, with each beneficiary receiving between N$3 000 and N$5 000 towards their studies.
Speaking during the handover of the funding, the constituency councillor, Albertina Nkoshi, said the support demonstrates the constituency’s commitment to promoting education and developing a skilled workforce.
Nkoshi said priority was given to students pursuing studies in the medical field due to the important role healthcare professionals play in communities.
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives, reducing poverty and driving Namibia’s socio-economic development. By supporting students today, we are investing in the future of our communities and our country,” she said. She explained that while the financial assistance may not cover all educational expenses, it would help alleviate some of the challenges faced by students and their families.
The councillor then urged the beneficiaries to remain dedicated to their studies and make good use of the opportunity provided to them.
“I encourage you to work hard, remain disciplined and strive for academic excellence.
This assistance should be viewed not only as financial support but also as an investment in your future and in the future of Walvis Bay Urban constituency, Erongo region and Namibia,” she said.
