Africa-PressNamibia. A FIRE that broke out in the Tsumeb branch of Nictus Furnishers has damaged most of the building at the mining town’s main street and destroyed most of the stock inside.

The actual cause of the fire that broke out on Wednesday evening is currently under investigation. It is, however suspected that a storeroom at the back of the shop that was filled with foam mattresses somehow caught fire.

The flames spread throughout the building in a rapid fashion. Members of the Tsumeb Fire Brigade, assisted by members of the Namibian Police, as well as members of the local neighbourhood watch, managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread to adjacent buildings.

According to a statement issued by the Nictus head office in Windhoek, no person was injured or killed during the fire. “The fire resulted in substantial damages to property and furniture,” the statement said.

After the fire was brought under control, the top and local management of the retailer thanked every person that played a role in containing the blaze.

The retailer’s Chief Executive Officer, Francois Wahl and Nictus Tsumeb Branch Manager Babie Nel, expressed gratitude towards the community of Tsumeb, the local neighbourhood watch, the Namibian Police, Dundee Precious Metals, Rubicon Security as well as the Fire Brigade for all the assistance they received.

According to the statement, arrangements have been initiated to recommence operations as soon as possible and the retailer requested patience and consideration from the public that will be inconvenienced by the incident.
