Africa-Press – Namibia. AFTER a two-year absence because of curfew rules brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, city residents can once again look forward to be treated to yet another spectacular display of fireworks to welcome the New Year.

The annual fireworks are a long-standing tradition and a highlight on the city’s social calendar with all and sundry flocking to the municipal parking area in the central business district to witness the beautiful show of fireworks as they all enter into a New Year.

City of Windhoek corporate communications manager Harold Akwenye confirmed that they are busy preparing for the fireworks and are contemplating to have artists as well.

“I’ll only confirm by next week. We have not yet confirmed plans besides the midnight fireworks,” he said.

In the past, City of Windhoek’s annual New Year’s bash was usually headlined by a line-up of the country’s best artists and broadcast live on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.

Usually residents are not allowed to bring their own drinks or fireworks to the event, with the City Police maintaining order throughout the evening.
