Africa-Press – Namibia. The first-ever international mixed martial arts (MMA) competition will take place in Walvis Bay this weekend.

Fighters from 10 countries will be in action for international titles from 1 to 3 July at the Jan Wilken Sports Complex.

Namibia Kickboxing Federation president Anita de Klerk told New Era Sport yesterday only affiliated members can take part in the much-anticipated event, organised by Desert Storm IV. “Among the countries that have confirmed their attendance are Zambia, South Africa, Botswana, Germany, Brazil, Zimbabwe and Angola. We still anticipate more to confirm their attendance,” she said.

De Klerk foresees a thrilling three-day event.

“Many talented young martial artists are expected to showcase their skills. We are hoping to see top-quality fights and produce superstars as well,” she added.

Day one will see competitors square off in MMA and Jiujitsu GI.

Day two will be kickboxing, and day three will see Jiujitsu Nogi fights.
