Africa-Press – Namibia. THE National Fishing Corporation of Namibia (Fishcor) has appointed mining expert Alex Gawanab as its new chief executive officer, effective from next month.
This was confirmed by public enterprises minister Leon Jooste on Wednesday. Gawanab has worked at Debmarine Namibia, Namdeb and NamWater, Dundee Precious Metals, Swakop Uranium and NamGem Diamond Manufacturing.
He will take over the position previously occupied by Mike Nghipunya who was removed after his arrest last year in connection with the Fishrot corruption scandal.
Nghipunya has been awaiting trial on charges of money laundering, fraud and corruption of more than N$75 million. Since his arrest, Fishcor has been without a CEO for more than a year.
The new CEO has a degree from Stellenbosch University in business management and business administration. He also has an honours degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cape Town.
