Africa-Press – Namibia. Former Otjombinde constituency councillor Karii Marenga will be laid to rest at Okatuuo settlement in the Omaheke region’s Epukiro constituency on Sunday.

Marenga died aged 65 in Windhoek on 6 December.

The late councillor was at the helm of Otjombinde between 2009 and 2025 under Swapo and went on to serve the party as secretary general of the Swapo Elders Council in the Omaheke region until his death.

His brother, Ngurimuje Marenga, told Nampa the body of the former councillor left Windhoek in the early hours of Friday for Okatuuo village.

En route to Okatuuo, the procession stopped at the Swapo office at Gobabis and the Omaheke Regional Council, where mourners paid their respects.

“My brother was a public figure and participated in many aspects of life, and thus we will honour him as such. We will make sure that everybody gets a chance to pay respect to Karii,” says Ngurimuje.

From the regional council, he says the casket was taken to the Ovambanderu Traditional Council Commando at Gobabis, where Marenga received a hero’s welcome, before it departed for Otjombinde.

At Otjombinde, the late councillor’s body will be taken to the Swapo office and the constituency councilor’s office, before departing to Eiseb Block where mourners can pay their respects at Okatumba Gate.

It will then proceed to Okatuuo settlement, where a memorial service will be held.

Saturday is reserved for the official memorial programme, where different dignitaries are expected to pay their respects, before the burial on Sunday.
