Africa-Press – Namibia. FORTESCUE Future Industries (FFI), a global green energy company that produces green hydrogen, has officially submitted a proposal for a 50-50 Green Hydrogen joint venture with the Namibian Government.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FFI, Mark Hutchinson, informed President Hage Geingob about the proposal in a recent courtesy meeting, while stressing the increasing demand for Green Hydrogen and green ammonia as the world transitions away from the use of fossil fuels.
According to James Mnyupe, the Presidential Economic Adviser and Green Hydrogen Commissioner, FFI’s proposal is not a new idea. He revealed that FFI has shown interest in working with Namibia last year already. This interest, he added, came after Namibia attended the 2022 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, following an invitation from Klaus Schwab, the Founder and Executive Chairman of WEF, for Namibia to showcase its Green Hydrogen potential and strategy.
However, because the government was still reviewing Hyphen Hydrogen Energy’s Green Hydrogen proposal at that time, FFI’s proposal was halted until the conclusion of the Namibian government’s agreement with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy. Mnyupe explained that the government is now reviewing FFI’s proposal, and the nation will be informed about their decision in due time, possibly even this month.
During the courtesy call, FFI’s CEO also praised President Geingob’s Green Hydrogen team, emphasizing that Green Hydrogen plays a vital role in addressing global climate challenges. President Geingob, who has emphasized the benefits of Green Hydrogen on countless occasions, reiterated similar sentiments to Hutchinson, stressing the importance of Green Hydrogen in terms of addressing youth unemployment through job creation, in particular.
