Africa-Press – Namibia. THE NAMIBIAN government is committed to increasing public health infrastructure as a means of enhancing access to health care facilities. President Hage Geingob made the remarks during the official inauguration of the Otjinungua Primary Health Clinic and staff accommodation in the Kunene Region on Friday.

In 2008, the government through the Ministry of Health and Social Services approved an application for the establishment of a clinic at Otjinungua. Geingob said the clinic and staff accommodation was completed in October 2020 but it took some time to have it fully operationalized due to some factors beyond the government’s control.

“Since independence, Government was been fully committed to transforming the health system into an integrated, comprehensive national service,” he said.

Geingob said the government will continue to construct, renovate and upgrade more health facilities in the Kunene region and elsewhere in the country.

“We remain committed to the promotion of strategies and programmes that address both communicable and non-communicable diseases through the development of new health facilities,” said Geingob, adding that they will enhance their effectiveness in dealing with existing and emerging diseases.

While the government is responsible for providing quality health services, the community should also do their part to maintain the integrity of the facilities at their disposal, the President said.

He urged the community to keep the clinic and its environment clean and hygienic. “By valuing the facility, one will ensure that it will become a place of care and hope for generations to come,” Geingob said.
