Africa-Press – Namibia. PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has thanked Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo for the warm reception in the port city of Antwerp where he had the opportunity to see hydrogen-powered boats, trucks and stations.

Geingob is one of 55 African Union (AU) and 27 European Union (EU) heads of state and their delegations attending the sixth AU-EU Summit in Brussels held on 17 and 18 February where world leaders discuss seven themes that include climate change and energy transition.

The EU has since 2014 invested 2.5€ billion (more than N$42.5 billion) in clean energy to support Africa’s green transition in which Namibia sets the pace with its $9.4 billion (more than N$140 billion) green hydrogen project in the Tsau//Khaeb National Park with a yearly production target of to 300 000 tons of green hydrogen and green ammonia.

“For job creation, part of our strategy is to position Namibia as a logistics, hydrogen hub and centre of excellence,” Geingob said.
