Geingob's Cabinet 'tired' - Kauandenge

Africa-Press – Namibia. JOSEPH Kauandenge, the secretary general of the National Unity Democratic Organisation, on Friday said president Hage Geingob has a “tired” Cabinet that lacks the stamina to challenge national issues.

Kauandenge said Geingob failed to answer questions on important matters during his state of the nation address (Sona) on Thursday.

“What I put to him was the fact that he has incompetent ministers in his Cabinet – some so old that they should have retired a long time ago.

“They really lack the stamina, urgency and energy to address the many social problems confronting our people,” he said.

“It is clear that this Sona was a waste of time as the Swapo government clearly demonstrated that they have no solution to those many problems confronting our people.

“We saw a tired president, who was not able to answer our questions with authority.”

Kauandenge said the Sona was an “attempt to try to sell a picture to Namibians that they are in control, while clearly they have no response to the many social and economic problems confronting our people”.

During the question session, Kauandenge asked Geingob what programmes were in place to address the country’s high unemployment rate.

“The president said they are waiting for the security cluster that will employ around 2 800 young people soon.

“This again flies in the face of the president’s commitment to trim down the civil service, and now he is expanding it – contrary to his earlier statement,” he said.
