Getting better after illness, Pohamba says

Africa-Press – Namibia. Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba says although he cannot walk or stand for long, he is feeling better after a recent bout of illness.

Pohamba spoke about his health during the inauguration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security’s new head office in Windhoek on Thursday.

The former president’s physician, Dr Tshali Ithete, recently said Pohamba underwent a medical procedure in July, sparking concerns over his health from the public.

However, Pohamba said he has been feeling better lately.

“I was sick, now I am getting better, but I cannot stand long or walk long distances,” he said. “I get tired, its a combination of what has been done to me by the doctor and old age – I am getting old.”

Pohamba, who served as Namibia’s second president, from 2005 to 2015, turned 87 years of age in August.
