Africa-Press – Namibia. A TOTAL of N$5 million has been allocated for the implementation of the Poultry Value Chain Development Scheme (PVCDS), an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture designed to support poultry farmers through subsidised inputs and capacity-building measures along the entire value chain.
“The overall objective of the Poultry Value Chain Development Scheme is to provide poultry producers with subsidised inputs and capacity building along the value chain to enhance poultry production and productivity, generate income, and create employment, thereby improving their socio-economic conditions. The scheme is being implemented in all 14 regions of Namibia, with a focus on individual communal farmers, resettled farmers, Affirmative Action Loan Scheme (AALS) beneficiaries, and producers in peri-urban and urban areas,” said the Ministry’s Executive Director, Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata.
She revealed that the project will target 2,000 small-scale poultry producers. The Executive Director confirmed that the funds will be transferred to regional councils, which will be responsible for creating awareness about the project and registering interested farmers, thereby developing a database of poultry producers eligible to benefit.
Nghituwamata also noted that regional councils will convene meetings with retailers to identify and register those who will participate in the project’s implementation. She confirmed that a subsidy voucher will be issued to registered and approved farmers based on quotations obtained. Retailers will then redeem the voucher’s value from the respective regional councils.
She added that producers will be monitored and inspected by the Ministry’s Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA).
“The Directorate of Agricultural Production, Extension and Engineering Services (DAPEES), in collaboration with the regional councils, will oversee the project’s implementation in the regions. This includes the timely release of subsidy funds for inputs, awareness creation, monitoring, and the facilitation of training activities such as demonstrations, farmer information sessions, and field days,” Nghituwamata added.
