Government Engages Southern Eastern Regions on AfCFTA

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, will soon meet with entrepreneurs in the southern and eastern regions to discuss Namibia’s integration into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

These meetings have been organised by the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industrialisation, Mines and Energy. The upcoming business engagements are scheduled to take place in the //Kharas, Hardap and Omaheke regions from Wednesday, 3 September to Monday, 8 September 2025.

The first of these meetings will take place at St Peters Hall in Lüderitz, //Kharas Region, on 3 September from 10:30 to 13:30. This will be followed by a meeting at Suiderlig Secondary School in Keetmanshoop, //Kharas Region, on 4 September from 14:30 to 17:00.

The ministries will then host a meeting at the Community Hall in Mariental, Hardap Region, on 5 September from 10:00 to 14:00, followed by a meeting at the Women’s Centre in Gobabis, Omaheke Region, on 8 September from 09:00 to 13:30.

“These engagements serve as a critical platform for direct dialogue between government officials and private sector, including SME’s, aimed at fostering mutual understanding, identifying export-ready businesses, and aligning policy measures to support Namibia’s active participation in the African Continental market,” the Ministry of International Relations and Trade explained.

The goal of these meetings is to gather insights, address existing challenges, and promote the development of sustainable trade practices within the country.

“The regional engagement process underscores the ministries’ commitment to strengthening public-private sector collaboration and ensuring that Namibian businesses are fully prepared to capitalize on the opportunities presented by AfCFTA,” the ministry added.
