Africa-Press – Namibia. OSHANA Regional Governor Hofni Iipinge has applauded the Office of the President — through the Upstream Petroleum Unit — for conducting countrywide stakeholder consultation meetings on the Local Content Policy (LCP).

In his welcoming remarks during the consultation meeting held at Oshakati on Friday, Iipinge said that the consultation process demonstrates the commitment to make the petroleum sector not only a driver of economic progress, but also a catalyst for equitable participation and national prosperity.

“We are truly honoured to host this gathering here in Oshakati, the heart of Oshana Region, where the aspirations of our communities meet the broader national vision for inclusive and sustainable growth,” he said, adding that the meeting came at a crucial time as Namibia’s petroleum industry continues to grow, carrying with it immense promise for transformation.

He said: “The Local Content Policy stands as a critical instrument to ensure that these opportunities yield direct and lasting benefits for our people through employment creation, capacity development, enterprise promotion, and sustainable socio-economic empowerment.”

He encouraged participants to engage constructively and share their perspectives openly since their contributions will be key in shaping a policy that secures investor confidence while safeguarding Namibia’s long-term national interests and ensuring that no region or community is left behind.

Namibia is on track for oil production by the year 2029.

The LCP was approved by Cabinet last year and is being presented to communities countrywide for their input.

The regional consultation meetings, which kicked off on 01 September, will end next week Wednesday.
