Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT) has confirmed that a cyberattack on the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) involved unauthorised access to its network, with hackers claiming to have stolen approximately 500GB of data.
In an update, NAM-CSIRT, which operates under the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), said the breach has been linked to the INC Ransomware Group, a sophisticated cybercriminal organisation known for targeting institutions globally.
According to the update, the group claimed to have exfiltrated sensitive information, including financial records, human resources data, customer information, and contact details. The attackers have indicated their intention to release the data after a countdown period, although no information has been published so far.
NAM-CSIRT said that the INC Ransomware Group uses “double-extortion” tactics, which involve both stealing data and encrypting systems to pressure victims into compliance.
The incident marks the second known attack by the group in Namibia, following a previous breach involving the Otjiwarongo Municipality last year.
Authorities have urged organisations to strengthen their cybersecurity measures, including implementing patch management, multi-factor authentication, and robust incident response and recovery plans. Businesses and institutions are also encouraged to promote cyber awareness and maintain strong data protection practices to mitigate potential risks.
