Africa-Press – Namibia. The newly appointed governor of Ohangwena region, the youthful Kadiva Hamutumwa, said she is stepping into the role with a clear mind and a full understanding of her responsibilities.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony from outgoing governor Sebastian Ndeitunga, Hamutumwa affirmed her commitment to the “mission set by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and the 8th administration”.
“Ohangwena has often been called poor, backwards, and underdeveloped, but I believe in the power of our people. I will work hard to tap into your energy, creativity, and ideas. Everyone has a part to play in shaping our future,” she said
She also made it clear to the councillors in the region that she “is allergic to back bites and retrogressive tendencies and has no time for gossip or backward attitudes”.
She encouraged the people of the region to be bold enough to remove old obstacles and courageous enough to rebuild together in line with the government’s bigger vision.
Ndeitunga, in his farewell message, praised Hamutumwa and wished her well. He said she is taking over at a time when the region faces big challenges like access to clean water, poor roads and the need for proper flood management in certain areas. Other pressing issues include land ownership complications, funding for water projects and improving infrastructure to attract development and investment.
“We did our part as governors,” said Ndeitunga. “I led with honesty, fairness and commitment, and I encourage you to do the same.” He added that he is stepping down with a grateful heart.
Hamutumwa was officially appointed as governor by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on 1 July 2025. She is the first woman and the youngest person ever to serve as governor of Ohangwena.
