Africa-Press – Namibia. HARRY Simon Junior, the promising young boxer and son of legendary boxer, Harry Simon, will compete in his first professional boxing match next month.

The match, which is referred to as Homecoming Volume 1, is scheduled to take place at Walvis Bay’s Indoor Sport Complex on 13 May. Simon Junior is expected to face an opponent, who is yet to be revealed, in a ten round international bout in the welterweight division.

This was revealed by the Municipality of Walvis Bay, following a recent courtesy visit between the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Trevino Forbes, and the Kambina Boxing Promotions Club (KBPC), under which Simon Junior trains.

During the courtesy visit, the team manager, Leonardt Simson, also revealed that they need to raise between N$80 000 and N$100 000 to make the event a success. He therefore appealed to corporate companies, particularly those that are based in Walvis Bay, to support the event in any form with sponsorships.

Forbes pledged his full support and also urged corporates and boxing enthusiasts to render financial support for the event and the young boxer.

“He is our own, let’s render our support to our sportsmen, we can do so as corporates or as individuals by purchasing tickets,” Forbes said.

Simon Junior is a professional boxer who was born and raised in Walvis Bay. He boasts a record of 18 fights, no losses and 12 knock-outs. He has been training under the KBPC, which was established in 2014 as an effort to keep the youth of Walvis Bay off the streets by training them.

Ticket prices for the upcoming match as well as Simon Junior’s opponent, who is a non-Namibian boxer, will be announced next week.

Those who wish to assist with sponsorships are encouraged to contact 081 1778 2071 or 081 2439 117.
