Africa-Press – Namibia. FORMER health minister Bernard Haufiku has been barred from entering the Roman Catholic Hospital (RCH) in Windhoek until further notice.

Haufiku on Friday confirmed he was given a notice on Thursday evening at the hospital entrance when security guards barred him from visiting a friend.

“Last night I was visiting an old man, Mr Cyril Rudolf (70) from Swakopmund, who considers me his son. He has sent a message to a doctor at Swakopmund to tell me to visit him as his son, not as my patient.

“Just as I came to the entrance, the two security men confronted me and said you are not allowed in,” he said.

According to the letter issued by hospital matron sister Bernadette Shipanga, which The Namibian has seen, Haufiku is barred from the premises because of an incident which took place on 26 January.

Shipanga says the incident leaves the RCH management with no choice but to bar the former minister from its premises until further notice. “Please note that trespassing will leave RCH with no option but to open a police case against you, Dr Haufiku,” Shipanga said in the letter.

A hospital staff member on Friday said Shipanga does not want to comment on the matter. “Sister Shipanga is not taking any calls and she is not going to comment on it. If it’s true, then he should confirm it,” the staff member said.

The Namibian understands the disagreement is over outstanding rent for the premises Haufiku was renting from the hospital. Haufiku has been renting the premises for over 15 years before he became a minister.
