Health update: Namibia's new Covid-19 infections double in a week

Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA has recorded 554 new Covid-19 infections. This is more than double the cases it reported last week.

The positivity ratio currently stands at 21,2%.

“We are reporting cases from 11 out of 14 regions, with Khomas region reporting the highest number of new cases, totalling 300 and 376 and making up 67,9% of the total confirmed cases,” health and social services minister Kalumbi Shangula said on Saturday.

The 554 people with newly confirmed novel coronavirus infections includes 16 students, 28 pupils from different schools, 36 health care workers and four teachers.

Shangula also said 74 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19, with only three patients in intensive care units.

Namibia’s current coronavirus pandemic figures are:

Confirmed cases: 131 230

Recoveries: 125 846

Active cases: 1 797

Deaths: 3 575

Fully vaccinated: 324 963
