Africa-Press – Namibia. CHILDREN need playgrounds more than ever for their physiological development and well-being, as playing is vital for children. The Helao Nafidi Town Council, therefore, established the first of its kind playground at Engela-Omafo Extension 1 as part of their 2022 action plan.
Town Mayor Darius Shaalukeni stated that playgrounds are important in the development of a child and it helps to improve their learning as well as social and physical development, thus council decided to develop one.
He said playgrounds are essential safe spaces where children can be themselves and express their fun-loving nature while developing crucial cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills.
“Play also encourages the development of coping skills, which are critical in times of crisis,” he added. Shaalukeni stated that the playground was established at the cost of N$ 45 000 and the council intends to establish more when funds become available.
“Hopefully Council will establish another facility in the town if funds are available during the 2022/23 financial period,” he added. He said the Council discovered that children have no playing areas in the town and many are forced to stay indoors, rather than play freely outside.
Shaalukeni appealed to the community to safeguard the facilities against vandalism and ensure it is kept well-maintained for future generations. PLAY: Helao Nafidi developed a playground for children .
