Africa-Press – Namibia. ENTRIES for the Hymn Awards and Choir Competition 2022 scheduled for 28 May 2022 in the Oshana Region are officially open. According to organiser Ndali Nenkavu, the competition is open to anyone that wants to create educational music, focusing on how best to deal with social ills.
He said registration fees for entries are N$150 per choir member (N$50 for school children), and N$250 per solo item and instrumentalists (N$100 for school children).
Registration fees include a gate pass. Nenkavu said the Hymn awards aims to raise awareness about all social ills the country faces currently. This includes music and songs about gender-based violence, depression, passion killings, rape, and alcohol and drug abuse, among others.
“We are aware how much people enjoy music and the important role music plays in our daily lives, thus the awards will be a most effective way to create awareness,” he said.
All participants including choirs are given a theme to compose songs related to social issues. Nenkavu said choirs will be provided songs to choose from and they may sing in any language they are comfortable with.
“We use this opportunity to attract people and raise awareness via music of the important factors affecting our daily lives,” he added. Those wanting to register for the Hymn Awards and Choir Competition can contact Ndali Nenkavu at 081 258 1073 or Paulina Iita at 081 290 1032.
